Alfred James (A.J.) Waterhouse, 1855-1928, though little known today, was during his lifetime a well-known and respected Californian newspaper editor and journalist, as well as a poet. Waterhouse was, at various times, editor of the San Francisco Examiner, Sacramento Bee, Stockton Mail, Fresno Republican, Santa Ana Blade, and the Marysville Democrat.
